Matthew Oransky, Ph.D. and John B. Steever, MD were presented a 2016 World AIDS Day Commissioner’s Special Recognition Award for LGBT from the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute.  The award was given on December 6 at the World AIDS Day events in Albany at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.

Dr. Oransky and Dr. Steever received the award for the team providing services to LGBT teenagers and young adults at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center.  The World AIDS Day Commissioner’s Special Recognition Award acknowledges individuals and teams for their commitment, contribution, and response to improve and promote the health and well-being of all New Yorkers.

Dr. Steever is the director of special programs at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, while Dr. Oransky co-directs the MSAHC Psychology Training Program.   Dr. Steever and Dr. Oransky provide comprehensive, gender-affirming medical and mental health care for transgender youth, confidentially and free of charge.  Leading the largest integrated health care program for transgender youth in New York City, they help young people from low income, ethnically diverse backgrounds lead healthier lives.
