Hundreds of clinicians, policy makers, funders, and advocates came together to identify solutions to combat violence against children and adolescents at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center’s and World Childhood Foundation USA’s conference, “Ending Violence Against Children: Developing a Roadmap to a Healthy Childhood and Adolescence.” Held March 22-23, 2018 in Stern Auditorium at The Mount Sinai Hospital, the conference featured more than 50 world-renowned experts as speakers, panelists, or moderators and kicked off Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center’s celebration of its 50th anniversary.
Angela Diaz, MD, PhD, MPH, Director of the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center and the Jean C. and James W. Crystal Professor of Pediatrics, and Professor of Environmental Medicine and Public Health, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai; and Joanna Rubinstein, DDS, PhD, President and CEO, World Childhood Foundation USA, were co-directors of the conference. Dennis S. Charney, MD, Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Dean, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and President for Academic Affairs, Mount Sinai Health System, welcomed the conference participants.
Two days of keynote addresses and panelists covered important areas ranging from brain development and stress to breaking the cycle of violence. The conference closed with a call to action from Dr. Diaz and Dr. Rubinstein, mobilizing the conference participants to collaborate on solutions to end violence against children and adolescents.
